Gets some use in Kenya
The Kenya country code top-level domain, also known as ccTLD, is .ke. It is administrated by KENIC which was founded through a process know as the 'Local Internet Community' The aim of this process was the create a local non-profit organisation to manage and operate .ke. KENIC views the domain name as a national resource and it is managed for the public and industrial interest. Their aim is to move Kenya forward in the Internet community and had full support from the Government behind it.
One benefit that comes from applying for a .ke domain name is that it is easy to obtain your preferred name. There is an 80% chance of getting a suitable domain, a statistic that beats .com. With a .com ccTLD, the same chance is estimated to around 1 in 70 million. Another benefit is that while not only being a globally recognised Internet Identity, you can also be associated to Kenya. It is important for businesses within Kenya to have a domain name that ties them to the country they are working within, and each domain name space supports a local campaign known by the name of 'Buy Kenya, Build Kenya'.
The ccTLD for Kenya had been divided into the following third-level domains:
- .co.ke: For Company use.
- .or.ke: For Non-profit making Organisations or NGO's. An example of this would be charities.
- .ne.ke: For Network Devices.
- .go.ke & .ac.ke: For use by Government Entities.
- .sc.ke: For use by Lower and Middle Institutes of Learning.
Some domain names may be classified by the registry as a premium domain name and will command a higher price. If you request a premium domain name we will contact you before completing your order.
In addition, the registry may at any time reserve domain names from registration or the sale may be restricted to comply with ICANN requirements.
Second-level domains, under which domains are registered at the third level, are:.co.ke - for Companies.or.ke - for Not-for-Profit-Making Organisations or NGO's.ne.ke - for Network Devices.go.ke - for Government Entities. Requires Supporting Documents.ac.ke - for Institutions of Higher Education. Requires Supporting Documents.sc.ke - for Lower and Middle Institutes of Learning.
